How Often Should I Visit the Dentist?

Visiting the dentist should generally be done every 6 months. This is the general rule. However, there is a portion of the population that needs to visit the dentist sooner, while others might require appointments less frequently (every one to one and a half years). This is something that the dentist will decide after examining you.

At each regular preventive visit, the dentist is informed of any changes in the patient’s medical history and performs a clinical examination of the mouth and neck. They look for damage to the teeth, periodontal tissues, as well as changes or abnormalities in the face, mouth, or neck. The dentist does not focus exclusively on the teeth but also checks suspicious areas or formations that might require further evaluation. Early detection of oral cancer is of paramount importance and falls exclusively under the responsibilities of the dentist.

If dental plaque, cavities, or any other alterations are found, the patient is informed and a treatment plan is developed.

Therefore, we visit the dentist regularly for preventive check-ups, not only when we have tooth pain or when a filling has fallen out. Prevention in dentistry is better than treatment.
