These include crowns and bridges, restorations that are permanently cemented onto the teeth. A crown is a full-coverage restoration placed on teeth whose strength has been compromised due to large fillings, fractures, or prior endodontic treatment. It restores the tooth’s original natural form (color and anatomy), making it more resilient to chewing forces.
A bridge is a fixed prosthetic restoration that fills (bridges) the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It requires teeth on either side of the gap to serve as abutments.
Both bridges and crowns are permanently bonded to the teeth and cannot be removed by the patient.
They can be made from various materials such as precious or non-precious metals with porcelain overlay, zirconium oxide, or all-ceramic systems.
