Bruxism

Bruxism, or teeth grinding and clenching, is a parafunctional habit, a “bad habit”, where one grinds or clenches their teeth during the day or night, often as a physical response to stress. The consequences for the teeth can be severe, including wear, cracks, fractures, jaw and muscle pain, headaches, and even neck pain. In many cases, it is accompanied by a clicking or popping sound in the jaw joint, known as “clicking.”

The most common and effective treatment is a night guard, a flat, rigid oral appliance worn during sleep. It prevents the teeth from making contact, helping to reduce strain on the jaw muscles and protect the teeth from further damage.
