Recently, we have all been called to adapt to a series of new circumstances.
The cause of this sudden change is the outbreak of the deadly virus SARS-CoV-2, which first appeared in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan (capital of Hubei province) in China.
In our country, the first case appeared on February 26, 2020, in Thessaloniki, and since then cases have been continuously increasing. Restrictive measures were the natural consequence to avoid the rapid and abrupt spread of the virus.
The dental community, moving toward the same goal, reacted immediately. The Hellenic Dental Federation (HDF) issued a recommendation for dental clinics to remain open only for emergency cases and only as long as the necessary protective equipment is available to ensure safety and prevent the spread of the virus. It was also recommended to reschedule all non-urgent appointments that had already been booked.
Our dental clinic immediately complied with the new circumstances, and the new procedure is as follows:
We advise patients to call us immediately in case of pain or swelling (edema) in the mouth or neck area. Through this communication, we will provide you with appropriate advice and evaluate whether your case is considered urgent or not. If it is deemed urgent, your appointment will be scheduled promptly.
Your medical history will be taken by phone (according to the HDF) and will include questions regarding recent travel within Greece or abroad, as well as the appearance of any symptoms in yourself or those around you. Specifically, if you or someone close to you has experienced cough, fever, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, or fatigue in the last two weeks.
Appointments are scheduled in such a way as to avoid waiting and, consequently, crowding. Additionally, sufficient time is allowed between appointments for thorough cleaning and disinfection of work surfaces and the waiting room. Ventilation of the space is done very regularly and necessarily between appointments.
Upon entering the clinic, you are required to use the hand sanitizer solution provided. The same will be done after dental procedures are completed.
We strive to limit aerosol-generating procedures and strengthen protective measures for both staff and patients. Strict waste management is also enforced, as we have always done.
